Tangipahoa Parish’s only Indian restaurant Punjabi Dhaba, located inside a Shell gas station on Southwest Railroad Ave. in Hammond, has announced on social media that they are reopening on May 1 for curbside pickup.
The announcement comes after the restaurant has been temporarily closed since shelter-in-place orders went into effect over COVID-19 concerns. Despite taking the time off, the restaurant has set aside special days to offer free vegetarian take out meals periodically.
Representatives say they were inspired to give out the free meals based on their faith in Sikhism, noting that serving the community in times of need is one of the many tenants their faith is based on.
