For the second year in a row, Amite Warriors defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher has been named to MaxPreps’ All-American First-Team Defense. Sopsher is widely considered the best high school prospect currently in the state of Louisiana, and MaxPreps and 247 Sports have him ranked the second best prospect overall in the nation for the Class of 2019.
The 6’5 and 279-pound junior was the anchor of a Warrior defense that helped produce a 9-1 regular season record in 2017, including advancement to quarterfinal round of the LHSAA 2A postseason. For a player with great size, Sopsher showed consistent versatility this past season lining up both at defensive tackle and defensive end.
Devin Bush, a 4-star defensive back from Edna Karr, was the only other player from Louisiana to land on MaxPreps’ list of All-American juniors.
Sopsher was also named to the All-USA Louisiana First Team Defense by USA Today, and to the Louisiana Sportswriter’s Association First Team Defense.
At the conclusion of his senior season, Sopsher will choose one offer from the many he has received nationwide to play college football. LSU, Florida, Florida State, Michigan and Ole Miss are expected to be among the young star’s top choices.
