Local Tangi and St. Helena football preps rack up 2A postseason honors

Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parish have continued to show their prominence in the football world as individual players are racking up on postseason awards.

A total of seven players from District 9-2A were selected to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s All-State selections in Class 2A. On offense, Independence’s Anthony McClain was selected as one of three running backs, and junior Devonta Lee from Amite was named as a wide receiver.

St. Helena placed three selections on the 2A All-State Defense including: defensive lineman O’Cyrus Torrence, linebacker Aaron Hurst and defensive back Demetrius Brown. Junior defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher was the lone selection for Amite.

Also, named in the All-State selections from District 9-2A was offensive lineman Brenden Kelley from Pine HS in Washington Parish.

Tangipahoa and St. Helena were represented furthermore in All-District 9-2A honors.

Amite ran the table on the major awards. Zephaniah Powell was awarded Coach of the Year, an honor he received in Class 3A last season. Lee was named Offensive MVP. Sopsher was selected Defensive MVP.

On offense the two parishes collected 12 names to the First Team:
